Bedspread vs Comforter
Posted on: December 24, 2011
The bedspread, the comforter and other items like duvets, featherbeds, blankets and mattress pads are all considered bed covers. A lot of people don’t know what the differences between them are and they find it hard to buy bed covers, which is understandable when they don’t know exactly what each one of them does. There are differences between bedspreads and comforters and when you shop for one you should know which one you need.
The bedspread’s design allows it to give cover for the entire bed and this will include the box spring. As for the comforter, it is built to offer protection to the mattress only, so you will need a dust ruffle or a bed skirt to protect the box spring as well. Basically, how big it is will determine whether it’s a comforter or a bedspread. The comforter which is twin size will be of smaller size than a bedspread from the same category. In both cases you will find bed covers which are twin, king size, queen size and double twin.
There is another difference in the bedspread vs comforter debate and that’s the way we use each one. The comforter’s mainly function is its use to keep us warm during the night, so it will be thicker and it will be kept on the bed when we sleep.
As for the bedspread, it is used to provide the room with an additional layer of design and it’s mostly used during the day, to cover the bed and make it look better. Sometimes it can also be used for warmth, especially when it’s colder, but for the most part it will be stored away when the bed is in use.
To summarize, the major difference between a bedspread and a comforter is the size and the way they are used.
